You can tell if someone likes you or not by the way they act around you. If they like you; they listen to you, look you in the eye, and stand close to you. If they don’t like you; they avoid eye contact and stand further away from you. Given that kids above a certain age don’t listen, have one foot pointed in the direction of a video game and beg us to drop them off three blocks from school, may give parents the idea their kids don’t like them much. So how do you know if your kids like you?
1. Every once in a while they make eye contact with you from the sports field for a parental smile or wink.
2. They may spontaneously sit next to you and not even ask for $5.00.
3. They let you have the last of the vegetables at dinner.
4. They share their garbage with you.
5. They come to you when they need things, like a quarter for the video game or new shoes or even a ride to the mall.
6. They are amazed by your talent of knowing where all the family members stuff is located.
7. They ask you questions and listen intently for your answers to, “What are we having for dinner?” or “Can John come over to play?” or “Can I have cookies for breakfast?”
8. They trust you to wash their uniforms before the game; which is in an hour.
9. They complement you on how creative you are to make 27 cupcakes appear on snack day when they just told you about it this morning.
10. They friend you on Facebook.
